This past weekend, some good friends were in town from Austin to go to the Astros game on Saturday. They called me on Friday to let me know they had extra tickets and wanted to know if I would join them. They are around my age and both fully vaccinated and careful.
They were going to be sitting in the club level. I thought about accepting their last-minute invitation then I remembered I was going to be at my Dad’s on Saturday. I talked to my friends Sunday morning and they said they felt safe.
They said most folks wore masks when they got to The Yard then ditched them as the game progressed. My friends kept theirs on throughout the game except when eating and drinking. They also said they felt safe when using the bathroom. It also wasn’t crowded where they were seated.
We will see.
On Saturday morning, I actually ate indoors at an eatery in the Heights for a breakfast meeting that lasted two and a half hours. There were only two of us at our table. The waitstaff were wearing masks. When customers were entering, most were wearing masks. There was plenty of space between tables. It was the first time I had eaten indoors since COVID-19 arrived.
Check this from the Trib:
Land Commissioner George P. Bush is sending strong signals that he’s preparing to launch a primary challenge against Attorney General Ken Paxton, hoping it can center on Paxton’s legal troubles and how he has run his office.
But can Bush keep former President Donald Trump out of it — both figuratively and literally?
Here is the entire read: How much will Donald Trump factor into a George P. Bush-Ken Paxton race? | The Texas Tribune.
Assuming Paxton isn’t under federal indictment by then, this will be a dirty race. Paxton will probably campaign on the election was stolen in 2020 and will force Bush to defend the 2020 election, or something like that.
Well, well, well. The Astros are on a six game winning streak. They are tied with the Padres for the fifth best record in MLB. Yordan Alvarez is batting .348, Yuli Gurriel .329 and Alex Bregman .305. They just swept the Rangers 4 zip. They went 8-2 on the homie. They have the second-best run differential in MLB. They are hot.
They are a good team. I have been wearing my Astros gear on game days. Why not? We are off today and start a six game roadie tomorrow in Oakland.
I will admit it. I miss going to ballgames at The Yard. It is wait and see for now. I am not in any hurry to get back though.
