Twenty years ago today, Selena left us way too soon.

Remember this tweet from right before the pension deal was announced:

Mayoral race fall-out could be fascinating: Does it take wind out of sails of those running on pensions? Or, elevate their signature issue?

Well, this certainly wasn’t part of the plan. I am talking about the much ballyhooed pension deal that was announced a few weeks ago and this from the latest Teddy Schleifer tweet from earlier today:

.@kwteaparty looking to defeat @SylvesterTurner pension bill by pressuring @joanhuffman, @TeamBettencourt. | http://www.kingwoodteaparty.com/kwtp-activism/houston-we-have-a-pension-problem/ … #txlege

I don’t know if this was the reaction the deal makers were expecting. Hey, but like I said last week. All the mayoral campaigns have smart folks working for them so I guess they know what they are doing. Right?

I know this is a very serious issue and we can’t tolerate discrimination but I have to say the events out of Indiana the last couple of days have been downright hilarious.

First we had Governor Mike Pence of Indiana go on “This Week” and completely botch his interview with George Stephanopoulos. He could not even answer the most obvious of questions – did the bill he sign legalize discrimination against the LGBT community. LAUGHTER!

Then they trotted out the weakest and lamest of all talking points about Bill Clinton and Barack Obama supporting similar legislation a couple of decades ago. That went nowhere fast. MORE LAUGHTER!

Then yesterday all the 2016 GOP presidential candidates including Jeb Bush tripped all over themselves as they headed way far right to rush to defend the bill and Governor Pence. MORE LAUGHTER – THE KIND OF LAUGHTER THAT BRINGS OUT TEARS!

Then last night the Indianapolis Star FIX THIS NOW front page headline was tweeted and retweeted around the world and beyond. UNCONTROLLABLE LAUGHTER!

Boy, the Hoosier State is certainly a mess today – that’s for sure.

I forgot to mention that fifteen years ago yesterday, The Yard opened with the game against the Yankees. When the Yankees visited the Astrodome for the first ever Dome game in 1965, how many future Hall of Fame greats played in that game?

George Springer made a leaping catch against the right field wall yesterday that got this “A Few Good Men” tweet yesterday from the ‘Stros:

Houston Astros ‏@astros 10h10 hours ago
You want George Springer on that wall. You need him on that wall. #AstrosST #SpringerTime

A couple of years ago, I participated in a small focus group of ‘Stros fans discussing the team and The Yard. Some fellow fan who was part of the group was all bothered about the fact that the new ‘Stros owner had played a round of golf with the President – huh! I wonder how that fan is feeling these days after learning that the ‘Stros owner played another round of golf with the President this past weekend.

Mickey Mantle in left field for the Yankees, Joe Morgan at second base for the ‘Stros, and Nellie Fox pinch hit for ‘Stros are the three who played in that historic 1965 Dome game who made it into the Hall of Fame of course.

If you sit in Club Level at The Yard you are in for some nice changes. Here is from a Yard press release:

The Houston Astros are proud to unveil the completely renovated Mazda Club Level on Wednesday, April 1. The renovation was completed this offseason as part of a continuing effort to improve the fan experience at Minute Maid Park. Media and invited guests will be treated to a sneak preview of several of Aramark’s new concessions as well as a guided tour of the new Mazda Club Level.

The official naming rights partner of the Mazda Club Level, Mazda, will proudly showcase brand new models, including the Mazda6 mid-size sedan, the Mazda3 compact sedan and five-door, and the Mazda CX-5 compact SUV on the concourse of the Mazda Club Level.

The improvements made to the Mazda Club Level not only elevate the quality of concessions and food service available in the ballpark, but also bring the game closer to the fans. Working with the team’s hospitality partner Aramark, the entire Mazda Club Level received a floor-to-ceiling makeover, including new flooring and paint. The food and beverage stands are repositioned to allow fans a clear view of the field from various points on the concourse, supplemented with new TV’s feeding the game. The general infrastructure for each concession stand has been renovated to allow for fresher, higher quality food and beverage products.

What was formerly the ticket sales office on the third base side of the Mazda Club Level is now a high-end eating venue, providing views from Texas Avenue to the field. In an effort to make Minute Maid Park a more family-friendly venue, the smoking areas were consolidated to avoid close proximity to any areas designated for children, such as the Minute Maid Park Squeeze Play. Virtuoso Machines, courtesy of Toshiba and Stargel, are positioned in several locations throughout the Mazda Club Level and provide an interactive experience for fans as they learn more about the Astros team, players, history and updated stats in real time.

The Mazda Club Level is open to all Astros fans with club or suite level tickets, as well as all game ticketed Mazda drivers as a part of the Mazda Club Level “Key Access” promotion.

Nice if you have Club Level tickets!
