Hello, September

Four months from today we will all be saying Happy New Year!

Remember when we were all dissing 2020? 2021 hasn’t been that better if you ask Commentary.

We are finally out of Afghanistan. How is that a debacle?

The racist voter suppression bill will soon become law.

I guess the GOP is cool being racist if they think it keeps them in power.

The lead story in today’s hard copy of the Chron is the I-45 proposed expansion.  Here is how the story starts:

Interstate 45 still is on a road to rebuild after Texas transportation officials on Tuesday kept the controversial project in the state’s 10-year construction plans, but warned that failing to get federal highway officials to remove their hold on it could halt the plan altogether later this year.

Here is the entire read: Controversial I-45 project still alive as TxDOT, feds given 90 days to settle differences (houstonchronicle.com)

Halting it altogether is fine with me.  Commentary lives just down the street from the proposed expansion. None of my neighbors that I know think adding a bunch of new lanes and displacing hundreds of homes and businesses is a good idea. It is more of the same racist BS that comes out of our state government.  They want to make it easier for the outlying suburban drivers to come into Downtown H-Town at our expense. Fuc_ing racist state government.

Commentary is starting to think that the GOP is going to pay a price at the polls in 2022.

Here is what the Chron’s business columnist wrote today:

“Behavior is really going to determine if, when and how sustainably the current wave subsides,” Lauren Ancel Meyers, director of the University of Texas COVID-19 Modeling Consortium, told the Associated Press. “We cannot stop delta in its tracks, but we can change our behavior overnight.”

Don’t count on Texas GOP politicians to help, though; they are COVID-19 superspreaders.

And this:

The (Texas) governor’s authoritarianism damages the Texas brand, marketing us as intolerant, theocratic, anti-science gunslingers. He’s not only killing Texans with his COVID policies; he’s chasing away economic opportunities.

His party will undoubtedly reward his behavior in the spring primary but how will regular Texans react in November?

Our lead is down to 5 games with 30 games remaining.
