Obama at 60

Former President Barack Obama is 60 today. Happy Birthday. He also did the right thing and cancelled his upcoming birthday party due to the surge in the Delta variant.  He was getting a little heat on that.

Democrats are pretty much united that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo must go. The President, the U.S. House Speaker, the two New York U.S. Senators, me and the list goes on.  We do the right thing.

I could never say that about most of the GOP leadership when it came to Donald Trump’s behavior with the porn star and his sexual harassment of women.

That is who we are and that is who they are.

Shut up, GOP. Stay out of this.

This is from the lead story on the front page of today’s hard copy of the Chron:

Fueled by the delta variant, a surge in Houston COVID-19 hospitalizations is growing as fast as at any time during the pandemic so far, and is projected to pass previous records by mid-August — even though roughly half of all eligible Houstonians are fully vaccinated.

“We’re heading into dark times,” said Texas Medical Center CEO Bill McKeon. Already, he said, “our ICUs are filled with unvaccinated people.”

On Tuesday, Texas Medical Center hospitals listed 1,372 people in intensive care — more than the number of regular ICU beds. The hospitals are now in Phase II of the medical center’s surge plan, opening unused wards to accommodate the gravely ill patients expected to need them.

Here is the entire read: ‘Dark times’: Houston’s fourth COVID-19 wave to be the largest yet, medical leaders predict (houstonchronicle.com).

My “Wizard of Oz” wall calendar for August has a photo of the ruby slippers and the Wicked Witch’s quote with the hourglass “I can’t wait forever to get those shoes.”

The Beatles calendar has a 1966 photo of the four holding mops and cleaning gear with a mention that they are ready to head out on their USA tour that included Shea Stadium and Candlestick Park.

The Astros sort of brought out the worst from Dodger fans last night in LA. Dodger fans were acting like fools last night.  Heck, the foolish behavior began during Astros batting practice. Dodger fans didn’t enjoy the pitching performance by Astro pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.  They also didn’t enjoy the Astros winning 3 zip last night.

We play one more in Dodger Stadium tonight.
