78 ° My Arse

There are two City Council District runoff races in Pasadena today.  If you live in Council Districts B or E, go vote.

From the Trib:

“I don’t have any potential reasons [for the plant outages] that I can share at this time,” said Warren Lasher, ERCOT senior director of systems planning, during a Monday call with media. “It is not consistent with fleet performance that we have seen over the last few summers.”

The number of plants that were forced offline today is “very concerning” Lasher said.

We operate the grid with the resources that we have available,” he said. “It’s the responsibility of the generators to make sure their plants are available when demand is high.”

Here is the entire Trib article: Texas power grid operator ERCOT urges conservation to avoid blackouts | The Texas Tribune.

Aren’t they supposed to coordinate when power plants go offline?  Isn’t that the purpose of ERCOT?

I wonder how many bozos actually thought that the ERCOT grid was fixed.  I wasn’t surprised with the news yesterday from ERCOT to conserve.  We had the Big Freeze a month into the legislative session.  Several hundred Texans died. Fix the grid was a priority. Instead, the GOP led Texas Legislature pushed permitless carry, anti-trans, and racist voter suppression legislation and wasted a lot of time.

Now they want us to turn up our thermostats to 78 °. Fu_k you!  They want us to unplug. Fu_k you!  They don’t want us to use appliances. Fu_k you! I froze my arse off for three days back in February.  Fu_k you! 78 ° my arse. Fu_k you!

My old pal and super duper investigative journalist Jay Root now with the Chron tweeted this yesterday:

Translation: if you live in #Texas, buy a generator right now #txlege

You probably should for a hurricane.  But this ERCOT sh_t is manmade or rather Gov. Greg Abbott made.

The way things are going, it could very well be Vancouver Cruz. It hit the mid-60s in Vancouver a couple of days ago.

I read a story somewhere in the last day or so about potential candidates like former Cong. Beto O’Rourke aren’t successful on their third run for office.  He’s the only one out there thinking about taking on Abbott.  Abbott is not invincible.  Why do you think he’s playing the build the wall card?  He’s screwed up the pandemic response.  He failed on the Big Freeze.  ERCOT is putting us in danger as we head into a hot summer.  These are issues that have had a major impact on our lives.  If Beto does run, he has to be all in.  No Mr. Nice Guy. No dismissive of pollsters and consultants.  Stick it up Abbott’s you know what for the next 16 months.

Chron Astros beat writer Chandler Rome tweeted this yesterday:

No Astro leads his respective position in American League All-Star fan voting. Jose Altuve is second, Martín Maldonado, Yuli Gurriel, Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez are third. Carlos Correa, who perhaps has the most realistic shot to start, is fourth.

There is a lot of hate out there among MLB fans for the Astros.  A couple of years ago we were getting more MLB All Star Game votes for Astros players. In 2019, #SpringerDinger, #Alex Bregman, Michael Brantley and Justin Verlander were AL All Star game starters. In 2018, Jose Altuve was a starter. In 2017, #SpringerDinger, Altuve and Carlos Correa were starters. Those days are over for now.

The Rangers are in town for a couple of games.

Astros Skipper Dusty Baker is 72 today.  Happy Birthday, Dusty!  Let’s get him a win for his BD.
