Tomorrow

If it was me, I would have told the courts to go f_ck themselves and dare them to throw out 127,000 drive-thru voters from Harris County.

The 2020 election is one with many story lines.  Near the top is the brazen and open GOP strategy to win in Texas by not letting us vote.

I was watching New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman on AC360 Friday night and he said that if he had a genie grant him one wish, he would wish for a former Vice President Joe Biden victory in Texas tomorrow.  He said it would be devastating to the GOP if they lost Texas.

CNN’s John King on his magic wall has been laying out the paths to 270 for VP Biden and Donald Trump.  On Friday, he shaded Texas blue and said there is no path to 270 for Trump under this scenario.

The Quorum Report’s Scott Braddock asked his political followers via tweet to pick who wins Texas in the presidential and U.S. senate races and does the Texas House flip.

I read some of the retweets to Scott’s tweet.  Trump gets the majority.  On winning the Texas House, Democrats make a respectable showing among retweets. There are very few that think MJ Hegar will pull it off.

59% of Harris County has voted.  We voted 61% in 2016.  If we get 388,000 to vote on Tuesday here, we hit 75% voter turnout.  Think about that.

We are seeing similar numbers throughout the state.

Polling is showing a close race in Texas.  Texas is now considered a toss-up state.

Political scientists and scholars have been saying for years that Texas’ changing demographics would someday make us a purple state.

Trump’s behavior, Beto’s 2018 campaign and Trump’s handling of the pandemic has accelerated the move to purple status.  It’s happened and here we are.

The surge in voters, particularly new voters will help Democrats.  I don’t think it will be as close as some folks are saying.  Trump will certainly hold on to his base, but I don’t think that is near enough.

I will go on ahead and say it.  Joe Biden will win Texas.  A majority of Texas voters will hold GOP elected officials complicit and MJ Hegar will win. The Texas House also flips.

The GOP can’t say we stole the Texas election.  How could we do that with a GOP Governor, GOP Secretary of State, GOP Lt. Governor, GOP AG, a GOP totally controlled state government apparatus.

Texas leads the country in infections even though we are the second largest state.

We will hit one million COVID-19 infections in Texas before tomorrow’s election results are officially canvassed.

We are voting during a pandemic.  We have had our lives disrupted.  Those of us who believe in science are wearing masks. Over 9 million in the country have been infected.  Over 230,000 are dead. Millions still can’t go back to work.  Trump’s approval rating on handling the pandemic is in the tank. I refuse to believe that voters reward bad behavior, including voters in Texas.

This isn’t 2016.  Biden doesn’t have former Secretary Hillary Clinton’s negatives.  Trump is no longer the outsider.

Tomorrow night when the early vote is reported at 7 pm we will have a good idea what is going to happen in Texas.

Texas will shock the evening, shake things up so to speak.  We will be center stage.

We will also contribute to not prolonging this whole notion of a contested election and all the rigamarole that some pundits are ginning up.  Texas will be doing the nation a huge favor. They can thank us by building Evan’s Ike Dike.

Now you know why Gov. Greg Abbott is calling out the National Guard.  The Trump caravan crowd is going to go ballistic.

The very few folks who pay attention to Commentary are thinking you gotta be kidding me. It is not going to happen.  What are you thinking?  This is Texas. There are too many Trumpers out there.

You are right.  I could be dead wrong.  If so, I will say so Wednesday morning.

Commentary gets it. A lot of the Democratic political consultants are still reeling over 2016.  I got it wrong then too. I don’t think I will get it wrong again.

BTW. Yesterday, I was trying to get on the Gulf Freeway over by Gulfgate and I ran into the Trump caravan.  They sure had a lot of law enforcement escorts with them clearing the way.  I wonder if that was the vaunted high-tech Trump voter contact effort on display.

Congrats to Isabel Longoria on being named the Harris County Elections Administrator.  Here is the story from the Chron: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/houston/article/Harris-County-appoints-Isabel-Longoria-as-first-15689377.php.

There is no mention that she was a candidate for Houston City Council less than a year ago.  She lost in the runoff by 16 votes.

We lost Sean Connery this past Friday.  Here is what I said this past August on his birthday:

One of my favorite actors is 90 today.  Happy Birthday to Sean Connery!  He’s the best James Bond.  I loved him in “The Hunt for Red October”, “The Rock”, “The Man Who Would Be King”, and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”

One of his first starring roles was in Disney’s “Darby O’Gill and the Little People.” I saw it.

Of course, he won an Oscar for playing Jim Malone in “The Untouchables” where he had the famous lines: “He pulls a knife, you pull a gun, he sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That’s the Chicago way.”

One of my all-time favorite Sean Connery movies is “The Wind and the Lion” with Candace Bergen.  Great flick.

Luis Salinas sent me this on my KiTiRiK take:

I just wonder where she is today if still alive.

I must apologize. It was a davewardshouston.com post that Channel 13 retweeted. Here is the post from last year that says she is still with us and living in New Mexico.

My Beatles wall calendar for November has this:

Tho’ I know I’ll never

   lose affection

For people and things

  that went before

I know I’ll often stop

and think about them

In my life I love you more.

     In my life

I love you more.

From “In My Life.”

My other Beatles calendar has a 1963 photo of the four in someone’s back yard.

A.J. Hinch is now the Skipper of the Tigers.
