The pandemic is certainly exposing the ineptness of GOP leadership and policy making.  The Texas Workforce Commission is overwhelmed by unemployment claim filers.  It turns out they are still operating with 1980s era mainframe computers.  How does your $400 million a year for border security priority look like these days?

Add to this, it was an epic failure by our federal government not let our African American community know that they could be hit hardest by the coronavirus.  Epic failure for sure.

Years and years ago, I used to get annoyed at those pre-New Year’s Eve Celebration press conferences by local elected officials and law enforcement leaders on their issuing of warnings to the community on firing their firearms into the air to bang in the New Year.  I thought they were singling out the Latino community.  It turns out they were right.  It is something stupid about our culture that we have a disproportionate share of knuckleheads who think this type of deadly activity is acceptable. In fact, a few years ago, a Latino Texas State Legislator from the Rio Grande Valley took a round to the top of his head as he rang in the New Year.

I think I know my community.  They are itching to venture out to the park this Easter weekend.

Commentary isn’t going to spend a whole lot of time second guessing the locals in charge during this pandemic.  It was a good move by Harris County to close the County parks this Easter Weekend.  You know there were a bunch of pandejos getting ready to head out to parks to do their celebrating and violating the social distancing commandments.

The H-Town Mayor is keeping the City parks open. Now that is what we call a mixed message.  Sigh.  Some may see this as a weekend respite of social distancing declaration from our local officials.  You know, let’s head to the park for a weekend of celebration and then we will go back to the six feet apart thing.

We are supposedly heading into our peak of the spread.  Didn’t we just hear lately that social distancing is working?  Commentary really doesn’t think that shutting down the City parks this weekend is going to inconvenience folks who are already inconvenienced.  The very last place I plan on visiting this weekend are any parks that are open.

Maybe my community will pay attention to Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and stay away from parks altogether this weekend.

I watch when I can on CNN the New York Governor Andrew Cuomo daily briefings.  I watch not because I want to know what is going on in New York, even though New York is at the epicenter of the pandemic in the country.  I watch because he is able to explain candidly what we are dealing with.  We are never going to get that with the daily briefing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Commentary never says anything bad about folks leaving us, except when we got Bin Laden.  Commentary wasn’t a fan of Linda Tripp.  If you going to leave us and you don’t want a lot of folks to talking stuff about you, you might as well leave us during a pandemic. RIP and that’s all I will say.

55 years-ago today, the Yankees played the Astros to open the Astrodome.
