The green bins are still sitting on the side of the street.

Commentary said this yesterday:

2019! That means we are done reading and watching about former Harris County Judge Ed Emmett.

2019! That means we will be reading and watching new Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo.

In today’s Chron, there is a frontpage story and an Erica Grieder column on Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo. Here is from the frontpage story:

In what appeared to be an implicit criticism of her predecessor, Ed Emmett, Hidalgo said leaders must be unafraid of proposing bold solutions, even at the expense of personal popularity.

“The point of holding public office is not to put our approval rating on a shelf and admire it, but to take risks and put our reputation on the line when we really care about something,” she said.

Hidalgo, who campaigned on making county government more accessible to the public, announced a massive engagement effort. With support from Houston Endowment Inc. and the Ford Foundation, she said Harris County will circulate a survey asking residents how government can be improved.

The Talking Transition program will also include workshops educating residents on how county government functions and town hall forums on topics such as education, housing and transportation.

Talking Transition sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

Here is the headline from the Grieder column:

Grieder: Give Lina Hidalgo a chance to lead Harris County

We also have a new Harris County Clerk. Maybe they can finally  post the #TXSD6SpecialElection canvass.

I mentioned I got a Beatles wall calendar for Christmas. I hung it up yesterday and noticed that the days are in the shape of guitar pics. Cool.
