Commentary received one of those evites with this on the cover:
It’s been 40 years since a Democrat took Texas!
This was in the body of the invitation:
Message from Host
40th Anniversary of the 1976 Carter/Mondale VICTORY in Texas.
Calling all Jimmy Carter Texas staff, volunteers, and supporters. Join us for lunch.
Several former campaign staffers are planning a reunion of those Texans who worked for Jimmy Carter in his campaigns. You may recall that during the 1976 bicentennial year, the little known former Georgia governor upset incumbent President Gerald Ford. A big part of his victory was his capture of the 26 electoral votes in Texas.
We hope that you can join us and our special guest, campaign manager, Chuck Parrish, for a reunion lunch.
This will be a casual event and give us a chance to renew acquaintances with longtime friends. It is sad, but true that the last year when we Democrats have won Texas was 1976.
To help us in planning for the event, please respond by Oct. 17th! We can’t wait to see you.
The event is at a Mexican restaurant in Austin in about a couple of weeks.
A bunch of great Dems were involved back then. Commentary wasn’t actually on the Carter/Mondale staff. I was the Deputy Director of the Texas Democratic Party’s GOTV effort that worked closely with the Carter/Mondale Texas campaign.
We all know Cleveland skipper Terry Francona won two World Serious rings when he was skipper for the Red Sox. Who did the Red Sox beat in those two World Seriouses?
Now this is a funny tweet:

So Donald Trump lost more than $50mm of daddy’s money by the age of 33. Born on 3rd base, stranded on 1st.
It looks like some Texas GOP State Senators want to own the ethics issue. Check this from the Chron today: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/politics/texas/article/Top-ethics-officials-grilled-by-Republicans-9811157.php?cmpid=btfpm.
Do they know how ridiculous this sounds?
In 2004, the Red Sox swept San Luis and in 2007, they swept the Rockies of course.
The ‘Stros have them a real knucklehead in their farm system. Check this from the Chron:
Amid the National League’s wild card game between the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets, Astros farmhand Brooks Marlow decided the time was right to criticize ESPN broadcaster Jessica Mendoza.
Marlow, 23, tweeted that “no lady” should be on ESPN commenting on a baseball game, “specially Mendoza.”
Prior to joining ESPN, Mendoza was a four-time All-American softball outfielder at Stanford. She was also a member of the U.S. national team for six years, helping the squad bring home gold from the 2004 Olympic games in Athens and silver from Beijing in 2008.
Although Marlow indicated his tweet was directed toward Mendoza, his “no lady” prelude conveys that women are not qualified to discuss baseball, in his opinion. Most likely realizing this, Marlow removed the tweet, made his account private, then made his account public again and tweeted an apology.
Marlow has since deleted the apology.
And:
The Astros released the following statement: “The Houston Astros do not condone the tweet posted by one of our minor league players earlier this evening. We have communicated with the player, who agreed that his tweet was inappropriate and insensitive and has since apologized. We also apologize to Ms. Mendoza, who is an outstanding broadcaster that we have had the pleasure of working with this season.”

They ought to cut this guy loose.
That’s all from The yard.
