Commentary can sleep at night knowing that the GOP is clueless about the Latino community. Governor Mike Pence showed last night that he is a long way from knowing who we are and what we care about. I was not insulted toward the end of the debate when Pence “whipped out that Mexican thing.” The phrase did immediately jump out at me though. Then I actually felt sorry for the fella. Where has he been? How can he be so ignorant? Here is from the LA Times:

“Senator, you whipped out that Mexican thing again,” Pence groaned at one point.

And thus a hashtag was born. #ThatMexicanThing quickly took off on Twitter, with users co-opting the phrase to share their own family histories of immigrants building their lives in America.

Someone quickly claimed the web address “www.thatmexicanthing.com” and redirected it to Clinton’s site.

The phrase underscored the Trump-Pence ticket’s clumsy Latino voter outreach efforts.

Donald Trump despises Latinos and Pence is dismissive. The fact that the two don’t respect us will only help us at the polls. No se puede fellas!

Then this tweet:

First Trump calls Mexicans “rapists”. Now Pence says #ThatMexicanThing Question: Is that a creative strategy to win the Latino vote?

Among active MLBers, Big Papi leads in the career doubles category with 632. Name the only other active MLBer with more than 600 career doubles.

Last week, CNN came out with a poll that had Secretary Hillary Clinton winning the first debate by more than 30 points and she jumped around 6 points in the poll. Last night, CNN came out with a poll that had Pence winning the debate by 6 points. So maybe Trump gets a 1 point bump.

Let me say this first. How can anyone claim Pence won the debate when he didn’t take the time to defend Trump? Come on! I will say that Pence certainly did outperform Trump.

So now it is on to Sunday night.

You have to love the way the First Lady tapped that microphone yesterday in an epic putdown of Donald Trump. You have to think Trump lost sleep over that.

And then there was the line last night where Pence said the USA was the “greatest.” So let’s make us great again, ok?

And just for the record, last night’s debate was not a game changer.

Albert Pujols of course has 602 career doubles.

Nothing to report from The Yard today.
