Everybody that Commentary deals with votes. That is how I run. We are all Super Voters.
Commentary really doesn’t like to make predictions on races. I will say that in Harris County, more Dems will vote early than vote today – E-Day. Combining precincts does not help.
Dallas Keuchel will be our Opening Day starting pitcher again making it two Opening Day starts in a row for Keuchel. Who was the first ‘Stro pitcher to have back-to-back Opening Day starts?
The Chron has a lengthy piece on the impact of the African-American vote in today’s Dem Primaries. Here is a part on the CD 29 race:
It’s also likely to benefit U.S. Rep. Gene Green, who is battling former Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia for his 29th Congressional District seat, said Mark Jones, a political science professor at Rice University. Garcia is running in part on his ethnicity, arguing that the mostly Hispanic district needs a Latino, which Jones said implicitly signals to African-Americans that they could be left out.
I respect Professor Jones but I have to disagree with him on this.
Commentary has been asked a lot lately about the CD 29 race. All I can say is that Adrian definitely made the case by a mile. There is no argument there. Now it is up to the CD 29 voters.
On the GOP side, all I can say is they created the environment and Trump took full advantage. Well deserved!
Just a reminder. If any of today’s races go to a runoff, May 24 is the date.
We lost another great actor the other day. I am talking about George Kennedy who won an Oscar for “Cool Hand Luke.” He was also in “Naked Gun”, “Airport”, “The Dirty Dozen”, and “Bandolero” to name a few.
Larry Dierker of course had back-to-back Opening Day starts in 1970 and 1971.
The team has the day off.
Good luck with your candidates today and go vote, please!
