Here is from a Bob Stein memo on a poll conducted for the Carol Alvarado for Texas Senate Campaign:
As the campaign awaits Governor Perry’s decision on setting a special election date for Texas Senate District 6, our recent survey of likely voters in the district has Rep. Alvarado dead even with former County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia in a 5-candidate field, and leading Garcia by 8 percentage points in a head-to-head matchup.
Promark Research conducted live telephone interviews with 310 likely voters in Senate District 6 from December 3-5.
The first ballot test included the three announced candidates – Alvarado, Garcia and RW Bray – as well as two possible additional candidates – Yolanda Navarro Flores and Dorothy Olmos.
If the election to fill the seat of the late State Senator Mario Gallegos were held today, for whom would you vote?
Carol Alvarado 27%
Sylvia Garcia 27%
R.W. Bray 15%
Yolanda Navarro-Flores 4%
Dorothy Olmos 2%
Don’t know 23%
After reading positive biographies of both Alvarado and Garcia, the second ballot test was a head-to-head matchup between the two candidates.
If the election to fill the seat of the late State Senator Mario Gallegos were held today, and the candidates were Sylvia Garcia and Carol Alvarado for whom would you vote?
Don’t know/Refused 16%
Disclosure: Commentary is working for the Carol Alvarado campaign.
