Commentary stopped by a reception yesterday for GLBT friendly elected officials.  State Reps. Carol Alvarado, Lon Burnam, and Garnet Coleman were there.  The Dean was there of course holding court.  The Dean didn’t look battle weary.  In fact he looked quite rested.  I went with HISD Trustee Anna Eastman before we headed out to The Yard where we met up with Brad her hubby.   Anna led the recent effort over at HISD to beef up their non-discrimination policy.

Speaking of, Commentary keeps getting these emails from an outfit called “Educators for a Better District IV” that hammers at current HISD District IV Trustee Paula Harris.  I can’t figure out if they are trying to recruit someone to run against Harris or just dirty her up over recent reports of her buddies getting HISD contracts.  Texas Watchdog has put out stuff on Trustee Harris’ buddies getting nice HISD contracts.  Nice work if you can get it.

Who is the oldest player currently in the MLB these days?

The feds are looking at Harris County’s investment practices.   The County Judge and a couple of Commissioners are welcoming the feds.
Check out the Chron story.  This one is going to get interesting.

The race in the new 35th Congressional District keeps getting interesting.  I think the media is going to love this one.  It has the gabacho factor.  It is kind of the old guard versus the new guard.  It is the past mayor versus the current mayor.  It is about empowerment. Check out the latest SA Express News column.

The Chron said we would go 11-16 in June but we went 8-19.  The Chron said we’d be36-46 today but instead we’re 29-53.  What do they know?

Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield of course who was born on August 2, 1966 at age 44 is currently the oldest player in the MLB these days.  Oh yeah, Wakefield will be on the mound tonight to face the ‘Stros.

Last night the team showed up and Wandy was outstanding and we even got a couple of dingers.  Here is how I prefer to look at the current situation:  We’re 1-0 in the second half of the season and the Red Sox are in for three!
