The truth squeals, err hurts, doesn’t it?

Even though it is not a funny situation, Commentary did have to laugh yesterday afternoon after reading about some of the Lone Star State GOP Texas House piglets, err members squealing about the possible closing of community colleges in their legislative districts.  They reminded me of Ned Beatty in “Deliverance” – wee, wee, wee!   What did they think was going to get cut?

The squealers are written about in most newspapers this morning.

A shout-out goes to GOP House Budget Chair Jim Pitts for not sugar coating the budget mess.

One of the squealers was GOP State Rep. Jim Keffer who squealed about the possible closing of a community college in his district by squealing this is “the height of irresponsibility.”

Hey squealer, err Keffer, start directing your squeals toward Guv Dude – wee, wee, wee!

In another related story, ISDs across the state may have to cut over 100,000 school jobs due to the budget mess.   Dude is not inclined to help find new revenue for our schools.  I suspect that Dude figures that the student population growth throughout the state is mostly Latino so what the heck.    Latinos students do account for most of the student population growth, but the growth hasn’t been realized in the teaching and administrative sectors.  Once the ISDs start identifying personnel to cut, quite a few administrators and teachers getting the ax are going to be from middle class communities and neighborhoods in GOP legislative districts and the GOP squealing will intensify – wee, wee, wee!

Koby Clemons will be a non-roster invitee to the ‘Stros Spring Training Camp next month.  Koby was the ‘Stros 8th Round Pick in the 2005 MLB Amateur Player Draft.  Who did the ‘Stros take in the 1st Round of the 2005 Draft?

Today is Day 9 of the legislative session and Dude has still not shown me a sanctuary city!

Hey, maybe the Lone Star State ought to take a page from the University of Texass budget playbook and create a TV network to raise some additional funds.   They can call it Lone Star State Toon Network.  Dude is a perfect Yosemite Sam.  The Lite Guv comes across as Dudley Do-right and Dan Patrick as Snidely Whiplash.  Speedy Gonzalez can be played by The DREAMERS.  Riddle-Me-This is Cruella De Vil of course.

Two years ago today The President was inaugurated.

43 years ago today, UH and UCLA changed college basketball forever when they met in the Dome.

Speaking of, from today’s Chron:

After years of debate, a decision on the Dome’s future — if not concrete steps toward setting those plans in motion — will come this year, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said this week.

"We on the Commissioners’ Court are going to have to make a decision, and I think it needs to be made this year, as to what we are going to propose to the voters," he said. "It is a challenge, because every time we take a poll and ask people in public gatherings, ‘Do you want to tear down the Dome?’ 80 percent say no. When I ask what they want to do with it, that’s when it gets to be tricky."   Check out the story here.

You know how I will vote on this.

My pal Bill King continues to give his takes on the H-Town pensions.
Check it out.

The ‘Stros picked pitcher Brian Bogusevic of course in the 1st Round of the 2005 MLB Draft and now he plays the outfield – huh!
