Hurricanes are bad news period!  The Tropical Storm Alex is fixing to turn into a hurricane and hit South Texas and Northern Mexico.  For the most part, the only fellas that ever come out looking better after a hurricane are the few elected officials that are in charge of the emergency management response.  Look at the Former H-Town Mayor and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  Look at Hunker Down and Hurricane Ike.  You gotta figure that Guv Dude has already put on his starched khakis and that safari looking short sleeve shirt with the state seal on the shirt pocket.   He’ll start getting his mug on TV and let folks know that the Lone Star State has all their “assets” in place.

It seems like Dude has been in reelection mode for the past year and a half.  For the next couple of days or so, he’ll be in an emergency management response mode.  Let’s see if he can keep the two modes separated.  Stay tuned!

In baseball, what is the “immaculate inning?”

Bonus:  What was the big news in the MLB 20 years ago today?

After the ‘Stros fell behind 4 zip after two innings, I thought “Two and a Half Men” might be a better watch but I decided to stick with the game.  We ended up coming back for a 9-5 win.  How about that!

The “immaculate inning” is when a pitcher strikes out all three batters faced by throwing only nine pitches – all strikes of course.  It has only been accomplished 43 times in MLB history by the likes of Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan, Bruce Sutter, Bob Gibson, Lefty Grove, Ron Guidry, Milt Pappas, David Cone, Randy Johnson, A.J. Burnett, Pedro Martinez, and Brandon Backe – huh!

Pitchers Dave Stewart of the A’s and Fernando Valenzuela of the Dodgers threw no-nos of course 20 years ago today.  Stewart threw his in a 5-0 win over the Blue Jays in Toronto.  Valenzuela got his in a 6-0 win over San Luis at Chavez Ravine.

The ‘Stros are 2-2 on their current road trip with two more in Milwaukee and four more in San Diego.  Commentary’s current for choice for the MLB All-Star Game, Brett Myers, goes tonight against Yovani Gallardo so it should be interesting.
