The President crashed the 18th Congressional District Dem Primary this past Saturday.  It was kind of odd that the endorsement was announced on the Saturday before the Tuesday election and 40% to 50% of the folks have probably already voted.  This is kind of interesting.  I have to disagree with The President on this one for sure.

Commentary spent some time checking out the Winter Olympics on the tube the past couple of weeks and I have to say that “Oh Canada” is a nice sounding tune.

Commentary also had the hockey game on yesterday which marked only the second time in my life that I have ever watched a hockey game on TV.   The other time was in 1980 for the “Miracle on Ice.”

Speaking of Canada, who is the starting catcher of the Toronto Blue Jays and what is his ‘Stros connection?

Commentary checked out the City of H-Town Term Limits Review Commission Saturday.  This is the second one I have attended.  It is interesting to hear the varying takes on term limits. Do they work?  Do they hinder the delivery of key services?  Do they damage the City in the long run?  Have they corrupted the electoral process?   One super neighborhood leader in talking about making the terms longer said council members are sometimes “distracted by elections.”  I’m sure he didn’t mean to say that elections are a distraction.

About 30 folks attended, not including the Commissioners.  Former CM Ada Edwards called term limits a “farce.”   She called term limits “anti-Democratic” and said council is used as a stopping off place.

It is definitely worth my time to get off of my arse and attend these meetings just to get a feel what a lot of community folks are thinking.  It is an eye opening experience.  I’m sure when we start approaching the deadline for a Commission decision, folks will start popping off and giving their takes.  Oh yeah, will you better start showing up at the Commission meetings and hear what H-Town is saying before you give an uninformed opinion.

Catcher John Buck was drafted by the ‘Stros in the seventh round in 1998.  In 2004, we gave him up as part of a three team trade that got us Carlos Beltran.

The ‘Stros Spring Training season starts this Thursday!–TownH- hh
