Commentary’s client, HISD school trustee candidate Anna Eastman, received the endorsement of H-Town’s newest PAC – Houston Business-Education Coalition PAC (HBEC).
Here is how they describe themselves: “HBEC is committed to supporting candidates for school board positions who demonstrate the leadership to improve student academic performance. HBEC is also committed to creating support in the community for significant changes that are required in Houston’s public schools.”
HBEC is made up of some heavy hitters both Dems and GOPers. Here are the members: James Calaway (President, Calaway Interests LLC), Jonathan Day (Of Counsel, Andrews Kurth LLP), Shawn Gross (VP, SAJG Investments, Inc.), Larry Kellner (Chairman and CEO, Continental Airlines), Ramon Manning (CEO, Partners Energy Group) Sherea McKenzie (Executive Director, Joint City/County Commission on Children), Gasper Mir (Principal, MFR P.C.), Rod Paige (Former Secretary of Education & Former Superintendent of HISD), Adrian Patterson (Associate, Fulbright & Jaworski LLP), Gracie Saenz (Shareholder Attorney, Winstead P.C.), Douglas M. Selman (R&D VP, Exxon (Retired)), Michael Trevino (Reputation Management Associates), Lori Vetters (Principal, MFR, PC), Jim Windham (Windham Capital Advisory) and Don Woo (Mission Constructors).
Here is what they said about Anna Eastman:
“Anna Eastman is a resident of the Heights and a product of public schools in Richardson, Texas. Anna graduated from the University of Texas in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History. She received a Master of Social Work in 1993 from Our Lady of the Lake University.
“While receiving her Masters, Anna worked for Providence Home in San Antonio, a foster home and daycare for children infected with HIV/AIDS. She provided transportation for non-resident children so they could participate in their daycare program. She served as an advocate for these children and organized day care/summer-camp for program participants. After receiving her Masters, she worked as a lead Social Worker for Communities in Schools at Gardendale Elementary in the Edgewood District in San Antonio.
“Today, Anna is an at-home mom who devotes her time on various community projects. One of those is Recipe For Success which is a non-profit 501(c)3 charity dedicated to combating childhood obesity by changing the way children understand, appreciate and eat their food. More information about Anna Eastman can be found at www.annaeastmanforhisd.com.”
Some fella that doesn’t like Anna cracked on her on his website for getting this endorsement. Of course, he didn’t mention that all three candidates in this race tried to get the endorsement.
Anna was a big organizer in the Heights for Barack Obama during last year’s Texas Two Step.
Commentary dropped by H-Town City Hall yesterday and lo and behold Jake was there with The Lovelier Wendy. Jake was catching some zzzzs so I couldn’t ask him if he had already received his voter registration card that I figured out how to get for him.
Speaking of, I was told yesterday that Gene Locke will start SHOWING ME THE TV next week. Well it is about time!
48 years ago today, Roger Maris hit dinger Numero 61 – that was in the pre-roid era.
Michael Bourn now has 61 stolen bases. Miggy has 194 hits. J.D. won’t be in the booth this weekend in New York City so maybe Pam-In-Charge will fill in – stay tuned!
